I am writing to you today to urge you to register to vote and to VOTE! And to invite you to get everyone you know to register and vote their values and their conscience!
A friend of mine, a Buddhist priest of some renown, once told me how dismayed he was that people often discontinue their Zen practice once they began to feel better. Zen isn’t about feeling better, he told me, it’s about making a difference in your life and in the world. Shamans believe the same. They understand that you are only healed as far as you can be an agent for positive change. I learned during my travels in the jungle and the Andes that spirituality is intimately connected to the well-being of your village. You cannot live for long in bliss on top of a mountain disconnected from the rest of humanity, tempting as this idea may be. This is not true bliss, but escapism. True bliss is about taking up your role as a co-creator of the world, fixing what is wrong and being steadfast in defending what is right. It means channeling your bliss into action and doing what needs to be done to help others have an opportunity to heal as well. read more >

In June Alberto and the Q'ero elders came together for the latest prophecy readings. The message from the reading was clear; we must connect and come into balance with our mother, with the earth. The prophecies stated that, at this time, the earth is turned upside down and that it is up to us to turn it right side up again. Now is the time for us to come into balance. For those who are in harmony and peace with the world good things, blessings and protections will come. In this newsletter, as we approach the equinox, we are looking at ways in which we can create balance - right relationship, with ourselves and the world
Many people choose to study with the Four Winds, because they are looking for a way to make a difference in the world. Students learn that creating change often starts within the individual. To be in right relationship is simple. Honor the earth for it's abundance and beauty; make choices that will bring healing, peace and harmony to the earth and one another.
Alberto's message this month, "Politics, Power and Spirit", urges us to make a difference in our world by choosing to vote. Political affiliations aside, stepping forward to cast your vote is imperative. By voting, you will do your part to "determine the world that our children and grandchildren will inherit".
Linda's message "Bringing Balance" encourages us to find balance by living our lives in right relationship - in ayni. Living in right relationship includes the relationships with our families, friends, our work, our world and our Self. Linda shares specific steps to create ayni in our lives. She explains that when we are in right relationship, we are able to assist those around us to be in right relationship too.
This month, we have chosen to feature our foundational Master's class, Working with the Sacred. In this class, we learn to work at the level of the mythic where we can dream a new destiny for ourselves and the world.
Alberto has said that "Everyone is born to make a difference". We hope that you will find some ideas in this newsletter that will inspire you to bring peace and harmony into your own lives and to our mother, the earth. We are experiencing a time of great opportunity. Discover your own unique way of honoring our earth, and creating balance. Working with the Sacred, offers a unique glimpse at the archetypal energy of the gods. In this class, we see how the archetypes directly affect our personal lives, and are able to experience the collective consciousness. We learn to track the increasingly dynamic changes that are happening in these accelerated times and recognize how old patterns can be part of our shadow. These patterns can continue to haunt us even though we walk a spiritual path.
When we engage at the sacred, or the level of the soul, it is through the language of poetry, dreams, images and “once upon a time stories.” In our western world we have forgotten how to work in this realm of the soul, which holds the myths of the world. Because the language of the sacred is foreign to most of us, this level of the mythic - or soul, can be difficult to understand and talk about. Yet, it is critical that we step beyond the place of words alone and look at the larger patterns because these archetypical stories are very limiting and unconsciously bind us. When we learn to experience, hear and understand the sacred we have direct access to the soul and to creating our destiny.
There are key steps to working at the place of the soul. The elements of these steps are embedded in all spiritual traditions that offer enlightenment, access to the divine, and life beyond death. The key element to working at the level of the sacred is honoring through ritual and ceremony. When we can see through the eyes of the sacred, we can see the gifts that have come from being caught. We are able to see what is missing in our story, and call upon the raw, untamed, forces of nature to help us shift from the human drama to a higher expression of our soul.
It is an exciting time in the world right now, so many major shifts are occurring financially, physically, and at the mythic. The Working with the Sacred class is a requirement for the Healing the Light Body School and yet the work is so powerful, that it also stands alone and can be taken independently from the Light Body School curriculum. I learned a deep respect for one of Goethe's couplets:

Bringing Balance
In the August conference call Alberto spoke about the recent prophecy reading by the Q’ero Elders which took place in Peru this summer. The elders stressed that we are in a point of great change where much of the future is being written. For them, the message told about the importance of being in balance with the earth and our world.
The Liaka call this balance “Ayni” which means to be in right relationship. To live in Ayni is to be in right relationship with the earth, our families, our friends, our work, and each person and thing we interact with; not just with those we love, but to be in right relationship with EVERY part of our lives, including ourselves. read more >

Mamacita Allende’s Quinoa Soup
Originating in the Andean region of South America, Quinoa has been an important food for over 6000 years. Of great nutritional importance, the Inkas referred to quinoa as “chisaya mama” or “mother of all grains”. A sacred crop, it was the Inka emperor who would traditionally sow the first seeds. Quinoa is highly appreciated for its nutritional value, with a high level of protein (12 – 18%) which makes it a good choice for vegetarians. We like it because it is delicious!
