© 2004 Wake Wheeler PERU - CHOQUEQUIRAO In the Quechua language, Choquequirao means the "cradle of gold." Peruvian lore speaks of three "hidden cities," each one step closer to the invisible world. The first is Machu Picchu; the second Choquequirao; the final one Vilcabamba. Join us on an expedition to the lost Inka city of gold. This is an extraordinarily beautiful and challenging trek that takes us along a pre-Columbian Inka Trail, through lush vegetation, and down 6,000 feet to the glacier-fed Apurimac River, where we view eagles and condors along the way. This is a rigorous six day hike along unspoiled Inka trails. Be among the few explorers to visit this extraordinary archeological site. This trip is led by Senior Faculty Wake Wheeler and shaman Porfirio Siquerios (Chino).
