THE SHAMAN'S WAY OF SEEING

Mayans, Hindus, Buddhist, Aborigines, Inkas, and early Christians have all portrayed the human energy field using the same lexicon of images. An artist decorating King Tut’s tomb five thousand years ago in Lower Egypt sketched the god Thoth with a luminous orb above his head, a moon glyph denoting his energy and ability to inter cede with the cyclical nature of time. This halo is identical to the eight chakra described by Amazon shamans. The jungle peoples believe the gifts of this chakra are exactly those represented by the mythical Egyptian god – the ability to step outside of time. Likewise, the halo of light depicted around Christ is essentially the same as the one portrayed encircling Buddha or around a Maori shaman in New Zealand. These images depicted in stone, in wood, and on canvas, confirm the existence of seers who were able to perceive a numinous reality. These were not artists using the halo as a symbol only; they were seers. The similarity of their perceptions attest to an innate ability we all have to sense the human energy field.

While references to the Luminous Energy Field occur across the globe and throughout the ages, most Western thinkers still find the evidence difficult to accept. We believe that when Egyptian scribes, Dogon carvers, or Buddhist artisans drew a halo of light around their subjects they were making allegorical references to some other kind of enlightenment. We imagine this enlightenment as some inner state that saints and sages achieve. Because we usually cannot perceive it with our eyes, we are convinced it is not a literal fact. Moreover, science has not demonstrated the existence of the Luminous Energy Field, so we do not believe it can be real. If we think about it however, we realize that science hadn’t measured gravity until Newton demonstrated that it was a fundamental law of nature, yet for thousands of years, apples fell from trees and water flowed downhill. Granted, gravity is easier to observe than the human energy field, but to shamans’ world wide, the invisible world of energy and Spirit is as tangible as water flowing downhill.
